Just FYI...

We are going to be starting the TOR on Feb 14th (saturday).

Now I need your input... We have quite a few people playing in the Tourney that are from Europe. considering the large amount of signups we are getting, if I make the pairings totally random, there is a chance that some poor chap in the UK may have to play a 7:00pm time slot (which is like midnight his/her time).

Do you think I should split up the Euro players from the US players? Let all the Euro players play other Euro players in the morning slots and let the US players play each other in the later slots?

Its either that or I pair a random Euro player with a random US player and if time slots are every half hour that means that a) there will still be some Euro players playing in their evenings, and b) some US players will have to player early in the morning (I say early, but its like 10:00am).

How do you think it should be done? I just want to be considerate to all, yet try not to "fix" the pairings too much. I prefer total random drawing, but I really want to make an effort for the folks overseas.

I wouldn't pair-up Euro players with other Euro players just because of the time zones involved.
That would sound sort of like pairing GIRLS with girls and GUYS with guys. Not good. Let there be a 'RANDOM' rumble!

Also, the tournament is on a weekend and the time zone differences are plus or minus 8-9 hours, at the most, compared to US time zones.
If you set up the tournament around 10-11 am Pacific (1-2 pm Eastern), then it would be 6-7 pm in England/Belgium, etc...

I think that the above mentioned hours make the most sense and should accomodate the majority of players.
Of course, if one's not available to play and/or thinks that they won't be able to play on the said date(s), then, they should 'NOT SIGN UP'.
PERIOD!

These are just my observations, of course!

P.S. An MP3 is just around the corner bubba. :P Muahhhh

That's my point. The first Euro player that gets the 1:00pm EST slot is ok. What happens to the Euro player might get the 7:00pm EST slot?

I don't want to make it more complicated then it has to be, but I don't want people to have to stay up until 12:00am their time to play the tourney either. I suppose I'll just wait for everyone to signup and deal with it then. Maybe just make sure Euro players are in all the earliest time slots available.

Now, what are the chances that a Euro player to be assigned the FIRST match estimated around 10 am Pacific (1 pm Eastern, 6pm England/Belgium) time, and then the TOURNAMENT lasts for "6 HOURS" ?? , and then one un-lucky Euro player gets the (6 pm Eastern time = 2 am time slot in Europe), hmmmm?? :P

Those odds would certainly equal winning the lottery.

Lol, yeah. I fell sorry for the sap-- erm, kind people who run these things!

As for the Europe/NorthAmerica time thing, I say that when they sign up, they should specify a timesolt that would work good for them. I personaly don't care, and from my experence, the Europe players will get up at 4 for two things: F1 races, and Tornys. :D

so count me out rock unless it moves to the 28th, then count me in =)

I know some big wig conteders want the tor asap but....
waiting helps out the demo community =) for a little while longer.
I hope its the 28th but i know some others have stronger words than me. I'm kinda dumb in my own way =P

I think you just need to to this: Make a tournament seperated: so Europenans against Europenans and Americans against American's and then, the two best of both timezones, Battle eachother in the finals
